Sellers Guide

This unique auction takes place on the 1st of each month, every month and provides a means for sellers to find buyers across the world.

The advantage of using such a unique service is that only sold material has to be sent to the administrators, and you set the price. There are two auctions to choose from, one for Stamps and World covers, and the other for British First Day Covers only.

The time to load up your material is between the 2nd and 20th of each month. At the 21st, each auction is considered complete. Lots have to remain in for the duration of each auction. If you do enter items after this date, they will automatically be entered in the next auction. The stamps or covers have to be in good condition. Any faults have to be indicated. If an item is in less than reasonable condition, it has to be mentioned on the site.

To help with security, sellers should register at: www.pennyred.com/cgi/auction.pl?action=newreg. There are two templates for completion: when viewing the 'Selling templates', be sure to complete as many boxes as you can.

You don't have to be concerned where to list your material, as the site will sort the stamps by country and Stanley Gibbons number, and the First Day Covers by date order.

Just about any philatelic material is suitable, but the administrators reserve the right to remove any items deemed unsuitable at any time. Very modern First Day Covers will be restricted, which is in place to protect current New Issue producers. Recent Royalty covers entered in the auction, certainly those since 1997- for Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, and so forth- will have to be accompanied by a Royal Philatelic Society certificate. Covers entered for less than £20 will be exempt from this rule. Any decision by the administrators to withdraw covers will be considered final.

www.pennyred.com forms part of Buchanan Street Stamps, Glasgow which has been selling stamps since 1969. We have built up a mailing-list which we think you ought to be on, if you aren't already. We have also absorbed some stamp businesses which retired, so that also swelled our client base. As well as specific, carefully-selected philatelic publications, we will also be advertising on the internet.

The auction take place on the 1st of each month, and only sold lots are sent on to the administrators, for verification. This way no time-wasting, sending lots that haven't yet sold. There is no buyers' premium, so buyers will not be put off.

The costs for this service are a 25p listing fee per lot plus 12% commission on the sale price of lots sold. The only other cost is your postage as one package to www.pennyred.com.

The material is meant to be loaded directly onto the web-site, but you can also bring material to the site administrators for inclusion in the auctions, at a set price of £1.00 per lot, this is to cover our expenses for things like labour and scanning. Blank forms are available for listing your material, on request.

Our resident cover expert Mr Geoff Todd can assist you if required. The administrators will also advise material that should be certified before inclusion in the auctions.

You will be kept informed of the progress of your lots. The minimum value per lot is £3.00. Lots which have not sold first time can remain in for two further auctions, without having to be reloaded. After the third time, the site will take them off future auctions. As a seller you can re-enter any items again. We wish you success
